‘People make Places. Places make People’.... In 2011 villagers began an online Open Archive on an informal basis. We have been recording events, logging images, sharing ideas and making comments for several years. You are welcome to browse its entries and view its pictures. The archive was closed for submitting new entries in February 2019.

Broadwindsor Community Stores Update

message from Fraser Hughes: 'BADCE heard on 12th December that the application for Change of Use for TOTE [=The Old Telephone Exchange] had been approved by WDDC which means that the premises are able to act as a Retail outlet (shop!). Many thanks go to John Heys (Vice Chairman) for all his extremely hard working in preparing and submitting the application on behalf of BADCE.

The Lease for the Shop has been signed by both parties and grants BADCE a flexible arrangement whereby the premises can be rented for up to five years. BADCE also has the first option to buy the premises if they come up for sale.

Chalk & Cheese have confirmed the Grant of £29,025 has been transferred to the new shop now that the Change of Use has had approval.

Final interviews for the post of Shop Manager took place on 11th December and the position was offered to and accepted by Sue Williams.

Sue Williams has extensive experience in running local shops. She ran her own store in Lyme Regis for 14 years and after a period working as a Teaching Assistant in Thailand and locally is looking forward to the challenge of running the Broadwindsor Community Stores. Sue holds a personal Liquor Licence and has a First Responders Certificate in addition to her convenience store experience.

Sue will take up her position on 21st January and is working with the committee to get the shop up and running as soon as possible.

The Shop layout is the next major task and consultations have already taken place with experts in this field along with the police, fire and environment to ensure the shop complies with the necessary legislation.'

Carols By Candlelight

It truly starts to feel like Christmas now, after joining in the service of carols and readings with everyone else from the village and round about at Netherhay Chapel.
As well as the traditional Christmas story readings and hearty hymnary, there was a sketch and poem and all topped off by teas and mince pies - and chocolate cake.
Happy Christmas everyone, and thank you Netherhay.

The Bridport Bus

Kate needed the car yesterday and after dosing myself up with various potions for this cold and cough, I wouldn't have wanted to drive anyway. So, with things to do (and yes the lure of tea and cake in Lula's) I caught the bus to Bridport yesterday.
It was on time both ways and without effort on my part - and a jolly sociable crowd by the time we were closer to Bridport too.

Drimpton Christmas Show and Carols

The entries below each have 5 pictures from the Christmas Show on Saturday 14th December 2012.

The hall was packed with villagers, friends and visitors, even from as far afield as South Africa. We sang carols, enjoyed sketches, poems, monologues, music, even a live diablo performance, as well as a special visitor and a wonderful version of the nativity story.

From Andrew: With thanks to everyone who took part and helped we made the fantastic total of £262.30 for Clic-Sargent - a sum far exceeding that taken in previous years.

Garden Club Christmas Lunch

The coal fire burned brightly in the Royal Oak hearth, welcoming the Horticultural Society members as we met to enjoy the delicious Christmas meal that Sandy had prepared for us.
