At one time last month I thought there was going to be no rain to record, as we have had only a short spell at the beginning of the month and another at the end, but when compared to last year, that was even less. |

Thanks to the hard work of Mike Saunders and the permission of Peter and Rosemary Coates, we could now enter and win Britain's best village noticeboard competition, it's a real work of craftsmanship. The other side of the bridge there are plenty of poppies coming up now, with more, I hope, to continue to come into flower at the beginning of August to mark the centenary of Britain's entry into the First World War. | Submitted by: Jacqui On: 27/6/2014 at: 14:47 Location: Drimpton Disappointing News Disappointing News I’m extremely disappointed to find out that the 42 timetable on Damory’s Website was totally wrong, to my knowledge this fictitious 42 timetable had been on the Damory website since the 5th of June & the link to it on many other travel sites including the Dorsetforyou website and was in effect giving the people of this area the promise of a ‘new service’, I was hopeful of a ‘Public Apology but the operations Manager Adam Keen declined – his email addresses is adam.keen@morebus.co.uk if you want to send him your comments Below is his email reply – please note in his last para he admits this is not the first time errors have been made “Further to our conversation of yesterday evening, I have investigated the situation that you brought to my attention regarding service 42. It will actually continue to operate unchanged when Damory start to run this service, ergo it will run on Wednesdays only. Please accept my apologies for the confusion and inconvenience that the incorrect website information has caused. I concur that this is not the first time that we have provided incorrect information on our website. Thankfully this year the weather was kind and a couple of dozen or so of us enjoyed picnics in the fresh air and sunshine, the playground was busy and (thanks to David bringing a ball) plenty of goals were scored - hint to England! It seems the most popular part of the event (apart from home made cake, and Becky's flapjacks - still warm from the oven were delicious; I should also give a special mention to Trish's very tasty couscous) was the gift of stickers from the very nice people at the Eden Project. These lines are only a guide and will be painted white shortly. What’s happening? The Drimpton Village Survey 2008 and the Parish Plan Survey 2012 both highlighted villagers’ concerns about the safety of the road junction at The Square. In particular, we were concerned about the risk of collision between traffic turning right off the Bridport Road towards Crewkerne and the traffic travelling towards Broadwindsor from the Chard Road. After a protracted period of discussion, the Highways Authority has finally agreed that there is a risk of collision at the junction. For a trial period, an extra lane will be introduced for traffic turning right. If this fails to reduce the risk then a mini roundabout will be considered. **** SUNDAY 1st JUNE, The BIG LUNCH – An Eden Project 12.00 noon to 2.00pm, at the VILLAGE HALL – outside if sunny Drimpton will be taking part again in the countrywide BIG LUNCH. | Submitted by: Heskie On: 18/5/2014 at: 15:40 Location: Drimpton Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Cycle Challenge 2014 The Coast to Coast Cycle challenge passed through Drimpton on Sunday 18th May. On a lovely sunny afternoon - better for sitting outside the Royal Oak than for cycling I suspect, people gathered to welcome through the cyclists. Here is what the Air Ambulance website has to say: "The Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge offers two different routes and distances. For those who like a challenge, the brilliant 54 mile cycle which starts in the Somerset port of Watchet and finishes at West Bay near Bridport will not disappoint. With a mixture of quiet back roads, interspersed with some very demanding climbs and equally hairy descents, the event has something to offer for everyone! For those that don’t want to cycle that far, there is a shorter 11 mile route which begins at Drimpton in Dorset and also finishes at West Bay. " [http://www.dsairambulance.org.uk] There was an event tent on the Royal Oak car park, a busy yellow-vested marshal and lively applause encouraging each passing cyclist.
