Comment from: stanleyG On: 31/12/2016 at: 12:31 2016Weather The rainfall in December this year was at the lower end of the average at 32.5 mm. or 1.28 inches. However, we have experienced quite a few extremes. Very heavy rain at the beginning of the year, with the inevitable flooding in some areas. During the year there were mini heat waves with temperatures around 36c, storms coming in from the Atlantic bringing in very high winds up to 100 mph. in the North with reports of minor Tornadoes in other parts of the country, such is the complexity of our island climate. The over-arching feature this year has been the very mild Autumn, the mildest for very many years. For the gardeners, the lack of hard frosts may mean an increase in the numbers of the ‘Nasty’s such as green and black fly which can do so much damage in the Spring. Happy New Year !! |
| Submitted by: Norman On: 20/12/2016 at: 20:28 Location: Drimpton, Netherhay Carols Round the Village 2016 Around 20 willing volunteers aged from 6 to 60+ assembled at Marksmead bollards on a damp and dreary evening on Monday 19th December. Spirits were lifted by Mel and Maurice serving mulled wine (with soft drinks for the younger ones). There were not enough singers to split in to two groups so we set off through Marksmead, with the children, armed with money buckets, knocking on doors as the choir sang a selection of Carols ably led by Jonathan Jevons on trumpet. Moving on through Netherhay there were more drinks and refreshments at Silverhay Farm before proceeding to Drimpton Cross, Chard Road, Spearmead, Oxhayes, Springfield Farm and finishing off at Applefield Road. After two and a half hours the numbers had reduced and the weary remnants retired to the Village Hall for hot chocolate and cakes kindly supplied by Rosemary Shepherd. Apologies to residents of Bridport Road and Crewkerne Road, regrettably there was not enough time to include you all. In spite of poor weather and limited coverage £180 was raised and this was shared equally between two charities for the Homeless; Shelter - The National Campaign for Homeless People (£90) Crisis at Christmas for the Homeless (£90). Well done all who took part and many thanks to all villagers who donated and helped. |

| Submitted by: andrew On: 4/11/2016 at: 19:04 Location: Drimpton, Netherhay Community Land Trust update Broadwindsor Group Parish Community Land Trust - Update, October 2016 At the public meeting held in Drimpton in September, the majority of those attending were in support of the proposal to develop a maximum of 15 affordable homes for rent to families and those with a strong local connection to the Group Parish Council area. With this mandate, the BGP CLT is proceeding with the contract tender process for site feasibility work, which involves a number of surveys – topographical, trees, ecological, groundworks, and landscape design. The CLT is also seeking expressions of interest from architectural practices and housing associations. Once the design team is in place, we will be working closely with them to achieve sustainability and designs in keeping with the rural nature of the site and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Landscape design will be a very important element in this process. Outline plans will be presented to the local community at public meetings in due course. We have a growing number of supporters who have joined the BGP CLT as members. We would welcome anyone from within the Broadwindsor Group Parish area to join us through the purchase of Shares at a cost of £1.00p each. More information about the BGP CLT’s objectives, summaries of meeting discussions, and membership can be found on our website at www.broadwindsorgroupparishclt.org . We would like to thank all the villagers, friends and family who came along and helped, baked wonderful produce, and donated towards this very worthy cause. We have raised over £4000 from these coffee mornings over the years. Quiz and Puds 21st October - 'St Mary's Parochial Church Council are very grateful for the support of those attending the Quiz and Puds event . In particular, thank you to Bob Shepherd for stirring up the 'grey matter' for at least some of us, Andrew Pastor for his adept mathematical input, and for those who provided our taste buds with delicious puddings, Rosemary Shepherd and Christobel Pilz supported by their team of helpers. A London-based military intelligence officer is remotely commanding a top secret drone operation aimed at capturing a group of dangerous terrorists in Kenya. Many moral issues which are explored in this remarkably accurate insight into modern war….Our Film Club is a membership organisation (£15 for a full year – May to April – in which 11 films will be screened and from November the membership will be £12.50 until April 2017. Temporary Membership is available for a single film at £4). Our film nights have a bar serving wine, beer, coffee and tea. Second hand books on sale before and after the film with proceeds going to the Royal British Legion. **** AFTERNOON TEA AND TALK on Wednesday 23rd November 2pm. 'Join us at NETHERHAY CHAPEL for what will be an enjoyable afternoon - Anne Mosscrop will give a light-hearted, interesting talk on her travels along the Great Wall of China, followed by afternoon tea with homemade cakes. Even on the last day of the month a figure of 20C. was recorded. Parallel to that, the month has been very dry and I have only recorded rain on five days, two of which made up the largest share of the total. The 15th.was the heaviest rainfall for me with 30mm. or just over an inch of rain and the 26th. gave me 15mm. which of course is just over half an inch. The total for the month was 54.5mm. or 2.15 inches, compared to last year when we had 121mm. or 4.8 inches. I understand the Pumpkin growers wanted much more rain for their Halloween Pumpkins ! |

We first meet them as children playing in a tree house on the edge of a village. Later Robbie joins the Army and goes to Afghanistan, where a spontaneous act of kindness leads to a sudden and unexpected tragedy. Some years later fate brings all three back to the waste ground, back to the tree house, where old scores are settled in a final act of reckoning. A story for our times. A play for today….. These homes will be specifically for people on the West Dorset District Council housing list who have a strong connection to the Broadwindsor Group Parish area. Members of the Steering Group summarised the history of the formation of the CLT, explained the site selection process, and outlined the reasons for choosing the proposed site, approximately 1.5 acres at Netherhay Lane, Drimpton. A lively Q & A session followed the presentation. A straw poll was then held, the result of which was: In favour of the proposed development: 68 - Against the proposed development: 12 - Abstentions: 6 At the close of the meeting, members of the audience were invited to support the Broadwindsor Group Parish CLT through purchase of shares at a cost of £1 per share. A further meeting for members of the CLT will be held before the end of 2016 to elect the Board of Management. **** PUB NEWS - message from Marcel & Kitty: On November 2nd we'll be handing over the pub to the new landlords and we'll be moving on to new pastures. We would like to thank everyone in Drimpton and surrounds for the wonderful welcome we've had over the last year or so and hope both the pub and the community will continue to thrive.
