A big thank you to Bob and Rosemary Shepherd and their helpers for organising this very enjoyable evening which has made us all wiser, fuller and possibly also enlarged our waist lines. A wide variety of different potatoes will be available as well as expert advice on how, where and when to plant them. However, it's not just about Potatoes -- soft fruit, vegetable & flower seeds, onion sets and many other plants are available to purchase. We also have excellent food available, creative activities for children and enrolment for the Potato growing competition. PLUS All-day brunches, lunches and cakes and warming drinks All are welcome, experienced gardeners, allotment veterans, those who have never grown a vegetable in their lives, come and talk to the experts, plenty of advice available. **** YOUTH CLUB from Rob Fooks “This month on FRIDAY 1st of Feb we've got Skittles at the Royal Oak Pub(meet there). Non-members £4 **** PLANTING THE POPPY PLOT – message from Andrew Pastor and Brian Hesketh “We are planning to plant up the Poppy Plot by the village bridge during the first week of February. Thank you to people who have already offered plants. Are there any more out there? If you have any kinds of hardy garden plants - tough, reliable, perennials that can look after themselves - that you can offer to help make a permanent 'garden', please contact Andrew. **** Clapton, Wayford, Drimpton & District Hort Soc AGM and Social Evening. WEDNESDAY 20th FEB 7.15 for 7.30pm. A brief business meeting during which you have the opportunity to make suggestions about the future direction of our Society . This is followed by a Social Evening. Meet informally and mingle with other members of the Society while enjoying a free glass of wine and snacks. Existing and prospective members all welcome. Vacancy for Annual Horticultural Show Secretary….Exciting opportunity to play an active and central role in organising a key event in our community. Very part time, but with a little more work in August. The Show Secretary is supported by an enthusiastic and hard working subcommittee. An opportunity to bring new ideas to this prestigious event. Remuneration - a generous supply of tea and home baked cakes. Optional mentoring and support from a past secretary available for at least 12 months. An interest in Gardening is desirable but not essential. The main requirement is a recognition of the importance of the Show to our village and a desire to keep it alive. If you are interested, contact: Chairman John Wright or Secretary Diana Leake **** ST MARY'S CHURCH – message from Neville Adams This years Annual General Meeting of St Mary’s Church will be held on Monday, March 4th at 7pm in the church. The Annual Report will be available a week before the meeting, and only questions on those reports will be accepted. Copies of the Annual Report will be available in the church. The main focus at the meeting will be on the short/long term future of St Mary’s Church which is facing financial difficulties, and ensuring that it can continue to fulfil its administrative responsibilities. The discussion will be led by the Chairman of the Parochial Church Council, The Revd. David Baldwin. It is certainly not acceptable. Whoever you are, please STOP!†John and Barbara Wright And whoever is bagging up their dog mess and then leaving it on the Poppy Plot OR throwing it into the stream should take the bags home! Or leave them in one of the TWO dog waste bins – ONE by the Village Hall, the OTHER at the end of Netherhay Lane. Is that too much to ask? |

The Hall was beautifully decorated by the usual ladies (Jane, Janet, Kay and Viv) who have been doing this for many years. Viv has been hosting the village lunches since 2001! The food was delicious and the puddings in the words of one villager “incredible†with most coming back for seconds and some for thirds. We would like to thank everyone who helped, the waitresses and the washers-up, those who roasted potatoes and made puddings. Thanks also for the wonderful array of Raffle Prizes and the ticket sellers. A real community effort! The profit of £486.42!! will be donated to various charities and good causes as follows: Roy Castle Lung Cancer Charity £150.00 - Age UK. £186.42 - St Mary Church £50.00 - Netherhay Chapel £50.00 - Drimpton Village Hall £50.00†**** FEEL-GOOD EXERCISE - “Many of us doing Drimpton's new qigong classes have already noticed better balance, more flexibility and a lovely sense of peace. Due to the lack of adult volunteers we've now had to reduce our timetable to once a month. Sadly, unless we can recruit new helpers the Youth Club will have to stop in July. If anyone can spare some time and energy to keep this vital part of the village going, please get in touch. **** SENSE OF STILLNESS Our Stillness Circle meditation sessions at Netherhay Chapel’s community room are a wonderful way to unwind, relax and restore. We meet on Tuesdays 12–1pm, and on the third Monday evening of the month (21 January, 18 February etc). They are drop-in sessions, so just come when you can.
